It is definitely possible.. public opinion would be trashed, but hell Bush doesn't care about that now anyway since he can't be reelected... it would be one way of adding more troops to Iraq, and it does need it as much as I don't approve of the real reason we are in Iraq, we are there. And with that, its now our responsibility to finish what we started.. if we just pack up and leave we are giving the wrong message, creating more enemies out of people who currently appreciate what we have attempted to do, sure we have made enemies too. But in the long run our rebuilding and investing of billions into their country might make a difference farther down the road....

The draft, ie. conscription, is an idea of nationalistic duty.
Do you think you owe the government who protects you nothing?
It is a part of your civic duty that, if called, you do your best.
I think the draft should be reserved for extreme circumstances of national security. Only if America is threatened (as it was in both World Wars, and in the proxy wars of the Cold war) should the draft be reinstated, not when someone else (such as the Iraqi nation) is at risk.
But, the government (by of and for the people) should be able to call on those fit to defend their shores.
One more addition, a quote from John Stuart Mill:
War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.

Okay first of all Miss Alexis, it's not some lie, so don't start blaming people and being rude. So please be quiet 'kay? Good.
I have also seen it on the news, even though they only talked about it for a minute.
I agree with tekin on this. We should only use it in extreme measures and we are lucky people volunteer and sacrifice their life for America.

Bush has repeatedly stated that there will be no draft while he is president. However, Jack Murtha and Charles Rangel, both Democrats, have called for the reinstatement of the military draft.

You haven't heard this on the news. It's not going to happen, the president HAS responded to this, and said "no, it's not going to happen."
The United States has a volunteer army, and even though we have been involved in a war for the last 6 years, and our brave men and women are fighting (and some dying) for their country, we are STILL getting volunteers.
Please don't spread lies. Lies beget more lies. We don't need any more mistruths spreading around than we already have.

If george wants to fulfill the wishes of the jews and attack Iran he'll have to reinstitute the draft! He doesn't have enough people now to carry out mission assignments in Iraq!

i'm already petrified of the Socialist American government because it particularly is and it could basically worsen till we get an honest President. i'm probably leaving the rustic quickly so i does no longer be worrying approximately it.
