Michelle, first you turn off electricity to all the house, you may need an electrician. It's best to buy the new plugs. I had several plug burn, so it's dangerous to keep the old ones. Jimmy.

It is probably not a safety hazard. They are just being a typical landlord - CHEAP! They would probably have to get an electrician which would be expensive. Changing it yourself is an option if you are good with tools. You MUST turn off the electrical breaker that powers that outlet first. There are some good books on basic home wiring at home stores and book stores. It would only take about 15 minutes if you know what you are doing.

Just maybe it is the plugs. and not the outlets. I've had a cleaning service and some houses I went to I'd have this problem.
Look at your plugs. Some of them have two pieces of metal that make up each side of the plug. Take a knife and spread them apart. They will then fit tighter in the outlet.
The ones that are not made of two pieces of metal just spread the sides of the plugs wider apart from each other.
I hope this helps.

It is really best to replace them.
The old ones will just keep giving you
trouble and may heat up and cause a fire.
When you do, don't go for the cheapest outlets.
The builders junk will just give you the same problem a few years hence.
Buy 'Specification grade` back wired outlets from Leviton, Bryant or another reputable maker. They'll cost a bit more, but be a lot easier to install, and never give you grief.

Your best option is to change out the outlets. A pack of ten outlets is around $4.00. Well worth the time and the investment.

Electrical outlets have electrical junction box that are before made of metal but recently made of plastic. Believe the metal casing of the junction box with the securing thread for the outlet is already worned or your outlet were not only screwed in. Just verify if which is which. Believe it only require screwing in to the body of the metal junction box.

They are old and worn out, you will need to replace the outlets, they are fairly inexpensive and you can buy them at Home Depot.

they're all warn out, replace or if you insist; twist the plug-in to the right and one to the left a bit and it will create better adhesion to the receptacle...but they're still warn out; must be an old home!
