What is your take on the US going up against North Korea? Do you think we should even attempt starting the war.

Nah, South Koreans won't allow it to happen. You have to be careful with North Korea though. China is getting increasingly hostile to Korea, saying it (Korean Penninsula) was once a part of China which is partly true but you can see where I'm going with this.
If you wanted a war with North Korea, several preparations need to be done. Seoul is headquarters to most of South Korean businesses like Samsung so a war is definitely out of the question with this one. Japan would also need to be prepared just in case if the Chinese should decide to intervene on North Korea's behalf.
If the US wanted a war, it would have been better done in the 70s or 60s when the South Korean economy was just growing- but a war is never good for the economy if there are 12,000+ artillery shells pointed at a capital city with about 1/4th of the country's population which also turns out to be a major business hub for the country as well.
This is what South Korea is trying to do- to keep North Korea alive as much as possible. Buying time if you will.

North Korea is very messy. For everyone around them, they are a danger and a liability that we will all have to live with. I was in Japan when they threatened to turn it into a "lake of fire" in response to U.S. aggression. It made people very edgy.

No, we should not attempt to start a war. Because of the potential bloodshed, I think we should keep paying them 'protection money' in the form of food and aid, and keep talking them down from that ledge.

Eventually, someone will offend them and there will be a war - their country is very militarized and has been in need of an enemy for a long time. Let's just not jumpstart this, because the affects on N. Korea's neighbors will be catastrophic.

currahee2100, I think there is no way China will willingly intervene on North Korea's behalf, and perhaps that is the reason why there is no fight today.
