If profanity, sex, or violence were publicized as often as religion, if there were as many pornographic images as there were Christmas trees, these left-wing radicals wouldn't even care. In fact, if someone did to profanity, sex, or violence exactly what these radicals are doing to religion, they would be infuriated. Not allowing people to freely say "Merry Christmas" or put up Christmas trees in public is a violation of freedom of speech. It's no different from banning the Harry Potter books because of witchcraft and these are the same people who oppose the ban on the Harry Potter books. So, where's the consistency in this left-wing radical thinking that you can't censor profanity, sex, or violence, but you can censor religion? Why is religion an exception to the principle of freedom of speech and freedom of expression?

Chatterus--Of course we want to "put up religion everywhere with indifference" to the people who live there. We should be allowed to express religion wherever we want and if anyone gets offended, that's thier problem, not ours. Besides, anyone who is so ultrasensitive to religion that they would go so far as to remove it from the public, clearly has issues. I suggest they see a therapist.

Michael da Man--I'm not a "religious fanatic" as you call me. If I were, I would want profanity, sex, and violence to be censored completely and I am the exact opposite of that. I just don't think religion should be an exception.

Yours is a gross overreaction! I guess you never get out of your house at Christmas. There are lights everywhere and billions of Christmas cards pass through the post office containing the very greetings you say are suppressed. Even the demon liberals you fear so much are celebrating Christmas. The problem with you religious fanatics is that you can't stand ANYONE who disagrees with you in any way. If you had your way you would be slaughtering each other like cattle... that is the history of religion.

Has anyone really ever stopped you from saying "Merry Christmas?" I live in a pretty politically correct environment, and it's never happened to me.
In any case, the prohibition against the government appearing to endorse Christianity by supporting prayer in schools, placing Christmas trees on public property, etc, doesn't come from the left-wing radicals, it comes from the United States Constitution, as interpreted and reinforced many times by the Supreme Court.
You are of course, free to worship as you please, and to express your reigious beliefs to your heart's content. I don't think you will find anyone attempting to censor you, any more than they are here. But if you want to promote your religion on public property or with public funds, the constitution prohibits that.
Maybe it will help to imagine a future where the US has become transformed by immigration to the point that another religion is the dominant one. This group passes a law requiring that all school children must study, say, the Bhagavad Gita, learn Sanskrit and meditate for an hour a day. As a Christian, you would find it intolerable for Hinduism to be endorsed over your own religion. This is exactly how Hindus, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, atheists and millions of other loyal Americans feel when the government today attempts to favor Christianity.
I think it is yet more evidence of the inspiration of our founding fathers that they anticipated such a problem and crafted a solution hundreds of years before it occurred. I wish more of the world would emulate their genius

You are mistaking religion censorship for the awful forcing religion down my throat that I don't agree with.
The left wing as you call them, don't censor religion any more than they censor pornography. In most cases that means they don't want either forced on them. You have picked some of the more interesting consequences of what gets banned when religious groups decide that they have the right to put their religion everywhere, with indifference to the people who live in that spot they want to spread religion to.

Nobody is trying to pass laws prohibiting you from saying "Merry Christmas". Or from putting up a Christmas tree in your home, or in a private business.
There's a difference between censoring religion and refusing to pay for it out of tax dollars.
Would you be upset if the town counsel voted to spend money to put up Islamic symbols for Ramadan, but refused to spend money to put up symbols of your religion?
Of course you would be upset -- and rightly so -- the city cannot favor one religion over any other.

it goes both ways, and they both are wrong. its people with too much time on their hands and putting their noses in others business. jessica simpson was turned down by christian labels because her boobs were too big. she wanted to record contemporary christian music. the same people wanted her to apologize for these boots are made for walking video. not too consistent. this country was founded to get rid of religious oppression and that may have something to do with it. a persons beliefs are their own, no one has the right to judge, but they all do. if someone tells me i cant say merry christmas, i will indeed, punch them in the nose.

Who is stopping anyone from saying "Merry Christmas"? I think you are imagining things. And what does that have to do with pornography???
You seem to have some first amendment issues. You like some parts of it but hate other parts of it.

because if you are religious then you have to acknowledge the existence of a higher power rather than the theory you are a superfine monkey by the way there is just as much evidence suggesting that monkey is a degenerate man. the left wing liberals (communists) see government as their higher power. thus liberalism is a mental disorder untreatable currently.
