No, but good debates aren't civil, open and mutually respectful. They are like a good workout at the gym... no gain without getting sweaty.

No, mainly because it's not a debate-style forum.
Despite the fact that many people use it that way -- either in whole or in part -- it's not intended for discussion and debate.
On top of that -- many people only want to help people who agree with them, and only want to rant and bash -- which adds noise to what could at least be a rational civil exchange of ideas.

No. It is almost impossible to find anyone on either side willing to be civil, open, and willing to mutually respect the other.

It could be vastly improved if it were properly moderated to eliminate trolls. Otherwise it is as good as any other unmoderated forum and since it is very large, one can expect a response form nearly any question which could be either a good or a bad thing I suppose.

No. Yahoo! Answers is in a question and answer format as you can see. I can't reply really to another responder.
Also many people make sweeping generalizations and assumptions and post questions that aren't even questions.
In short it's retarded.

nope i hardly get logic in return just name calling and from ex FBI and gov officials seems they cant come up with a good argument in return i expect this from teens and buffoons but not from the educated
