There's is more than one answer to this inquiry...
A.) Because people are trying to be cruel, and they are miserable people! So, in an attempt to make others feel as crappy as they do...they aim to discredit the thoughtful, reasonable answers.
B.) Perhaps they are illogical people, and ignorant to the concept of LOGIC...Only LOGICAL people can recognize logical answers...So the ignorant individuals thumbs down what they don't understand.
C.) Flat-OUT: They are trolls!
D.) They get thumbs down on their answer...So, they'll give another person a thumbs down.

Frequently because the people giving a thumbs-down to not like the poster personally, so they don't even bother reading the post.
Sometimes because the post is too long, and that annoys some people.
And often because some people hate to be proven wrong, so they give the thumbs-down because that lets them continue ignoring reality for longer.

I suspect it's because they don't support the bias of the ones doing the voting. I think most vote with their emotions rather than determining if the answer really answers the question. Of course, unbiased questions are a rarity too. The same applies to 'best answer' votes much of the time too. My favorite was when 'yup' got 'best answer' over much more rational and logical ones.

I have learned that answering in a specific way wins points. I now no longer answer in this manner but reply to questions in a less formal albeit truthful manner than previously. My best answers category has come to a standstill.

Because it is the only way some people have to vent their fustration at a logical answer that does not support their illogical views.

I think it is because people think you are challenging them or making fun of them.
Someone on another forum I was in made this statement "I fell pregnant at 16".
Boy the heat I got for saying that you don't fall pregnant like you fall into a pool of water.

Simple bias. People tend to listen to what they want, ignoring the rest. "If you don't completely agree, you're obviously an idiot" syndrome. Besides, most of these "questions" aren't questions at all. Merely attempts to validate their own particular stance.

Good question, the only answer I have it is because people don't agree with "logic." Go figure.

I give a thumbs down for two reasons,
1. Because it doesn't sound logical to me; and/or
2. Because the answer is rude or off color.

Thumbs down were intended for poor answers, but they are also going to those answers on simple disagreement grounds. Unfair.
