2003 Titan GN 3horse combo. Steel

Good points-

gaveneal has not rusted yet.

As far as sturdyness, been a pretty decent trailer, haul about 5 thousand plus miles/yr with it.

Bad points-
windows leaked 2 years into owning it.

the door's hinge completely busted off and bent, leaving a huge area of welding work. *this year*

The wheel well lights go out about 2x/yr , they completely rusted out at the hookups and had to be reworked on.

Tell me about your trailers and good/bad experiences.

Oh and the door to the sleeping area leaked badly and has actually rusted out the bottom of the door. In the next year, I will probably need a new door.

1978 WW 2H BP Steel. Total refab by hubby. Cheap trailer and paid for, nice to take for a day ride.

My camping trailer is also an older steel GN with a weekender package...also paid for.

Because of my hubby's skills I was able to pay cash, re-do and have a very nice looking rig and no debt.

In theory this is supposed to mean I can go pretty much where I want to go without worrying about cash. Ha ha.

In actuality, it means that as long as my work schedule is what it is and until my house is done with the re-model I'm not paying for a trailer to sit in my driveway as I walk by every weekend with my lip sticking out thinking of all the trails I should be on instead of working on that house!

The steel GN is heavy. I switched the old style GN for one with a bevel to make hooking up easier. Again...hubby is a very talented welder and "trailer repair" and hitch installation is part of his business.

That in mind for us, once you buy an older trailer and make improvements, they don't depreciate any more and we can generally get more (post improvements) out of them than we paid for them.

There are advantages to buying older most being not having a payment and that works for me because my maintenance/improvements cost very, very little. Still, in a couple of years when he retires, we're going to go for a 3H slant GN all aluminum with full living quarters as we will be traveling more.

On the must haves list when the time comes to buy a newer aluminum, we will make sure the rear tack can swivel out. I know it's a great use of otherwise wasted space, but I'm not wild about them in the first place...makes the entry kind of narrow, once one of my "one-eyed" horses got too close to that side and barked his hip up pretty bad...had some trouble loading him afterwards for awhile, until he got his confidence back up.

94? S&H gooseneck 3 horse slant w/sleeping dressing room space to install bath and kitchen. Bought in 05 brand new never used off the lot. Have absolutely no complaints. Great features. No divider between doors so saddle rack can be removed and it opens like a stock trailer great for hard loaders or injury/emergencies. Easy to remove stall dividers for drafty width horses or camping. Love it

P.S. Very uncommon brand here in Michigan, hadn't seen before we found ours. They're out of Oklahoma I believe. Also paid for The dealer was going out of buisiness. It was a little more trailer than we originally planned on but was less than any decent bumper pulls in the area.

2000 Hawk 2H extra wide bumper pull.

GOOD: still in excellent condition after 7 years.
"Rubber torsion" axles - while I have no idea what that really means, it does give the horses a better ride as evidenced by a 9 hour ride in early September (hot) with two horses who didn't even break a sweat.
Lots of openable windows and vents.

BAD: several running light covers fell off almost immediately.
Driver's side door refuses to stay latched unless it's locked.
A mouse or something chewed through the wiring and there was very little slack in order to fix it.

1996 Circle J 2 horse slant bumper pull.

Good points: easy to hitch up, horses seem comfortable, easy to load in. Pulls easily behind my truck.

Not so good points: Dressing room door is a pain to get shut and latched. No drop down windows - just open at the top on both sides. Hard for my short self to reach the tie ring.

Built my own 'convertable' trailer.

3 - 6000# axle, 2-5/16 ball and 5th wheel adaptor so it can be used either way, 24' by 8' flatbed as bumper pull and 32' as 5th.
Removable 'add-ons' allow 10' 'camper' front, with horse carry rear with swing doors and ramp (straight load), or full stock carry with center gate, or front 'open storage' (for hay, etc), with or without 'top' cover.

Type of trailer limited only by ingenuity and welding capability!!
