Yes, you never know.
Could be a pirate waiting to give you his treasure.
Take that in any way you like.

GO up there and take another person with you - it sounds to me like an Opossum or a Squirrel - bring up a baseball bat or a wooden broom just in case - it can make you feel more secure. ALSO - scream out when you go up they're that you've called the police...just in case it's a person - all of those usually calm me down because I am usually a chickenSh!t when it comes to all of that---don't be scared!!!! You can do it!@!

Could be something in the pipes, or with the construction. I would suggest you have a professional check it out. Also depending on the location of the house, animals can get into new homes! I still say play it safe and someone who knows what they are doing look into it!

If you have rats or squirrels, you are lucky. If you've got a raccoon, you've got a professional problem.
Also, townhouses have tie boards that sound and vibration can travel through from the townhouse abutting yours.

....well the banging noise is granny knocking on the door to let her in, it stopped briefly cause she was trying to get in, hehehe, but you closed the door to quickly!!
First define banging as opposed to footsteps, is there a window open or laundry dryer vent trap door flapping in a draft, which stopped when you opened the door and equalized the pressure...most definitely there is a logical explanation. If you go in bring a flashlight so you don't trip on something in the dark...k

It COULD be a raccoon. I had a whole family of the buggers in my attic LAST month. The mama raccoon actually tore a hole in the siding to get UP there and that racket alone made me want to call an exorcist.

No. What benefit is there for you to go any place that might be a danger to you. Send someone else to investigate. Ignore all other things that are non of your business including people, packages, phone calls, knocking on your door, etc.

It could be someone ready to rob you...
Or a mouse.
A new house is more likely to have had a small animal trapped during its construction.
It, obviously, hasn't had walls for long.
If it comforts you, wear a crucifix when you walk up there to put out poison.
You scared it when you slammed the door.

What are you crazy. Have you never watched a horror flick in your life??? Definately do not go up there. Espically if it is at night and you are by yourself. Just because the house is new doesnt mean it wasnt built on old ground.
