I just started following Barry Bonds as he neared the new homerun record about a month ago and heard about all this speculation of him cheating and using steriods. Information on this?

Barry is currently under investigation so the evidence that has been collected to this point is being kept secret. It won't be made public until charges are filed (or MLB decides to take action). He did appear before a grand jury and admitted to taking two products that were steroids but claimed others lied to him by saying he was told they were something else. His testimony was supposed to be secret too but someone leaked it to SF Chronicle reporters.

The two links from Ummfada will pretty much get you up to speed on the issue... especially if you read several of the other SFGate articles too.

BALCO, the company developing and selling the products was busted and put out of business. Five or six other Major League ballplayers testified they got their steroids through Barry. Barry got them from life-long friend, Greg Anderson, who pleaded guilty to drug dealing charges. Greg is now rotting in prison, refusing to testify.

PS: The analogy of the guy traveling across country is fair. (at this point) We can see something is not right and someone if not telling the truth.

The circumstantial evidense of steriod use is astounding, yet there is not any evidence of cheating. the completed MLB game enthusiasts could desire to have used steriods and much extra of them did than maximum folk will ever get to take heed to approximately. Why? for the rationalization that an embarassed league likes the completed undesirable press approximately steroids being directed at one scapegoat. they do no longer choose particularly particularly everyone speaking with reference to the region the completed a hundred MPH fastballs went or why so few game enthusiasts are hitting 30+ abode runs now. in basic terms carry speaking approximately Bonds.

The circumstantial evidense of steriod use is good, but there is no evidence of cheating. All of the MLB players could have used steriods and a lot more of them did than most of us will ever get to hear about.

Why? Because an embarassed league likes all the negative press about steroids being directed at one scapegoat.

They don't want anyone talking about where all the 100 MPH fastballs went or why so few players are hitting 30+ home runs now. Just keep talking about Bonds.

There is no proof. At least no proof you can use in the court of law. He has never failed a drug test. People question the growth spurt he had between 1998 and 2003. Some say his head grew sinificantly. His body mass definetly grew. If you look at his images from his years with the pirates and his early years from the giants its night and day. He put on alot of muscle. He used to have the body type of a grady sizemore type player or Derek Jeter. now he's enormous. But still theres no evidence only specutlation

He admitted to using drugs but denied he knew what he was taking. The proof came from his testimony tho the book game of shadows highlights many things to do with the group who produced and administered the drugs he took.

The lawyer, who "leaked" the grand jury testimony that mentioned Bonds and steroids in the same sentence, is a known felon and is currently serving jail sentence.

Not much credibility there.

The world of sports memorabilia is huge $$ right now. If you want to you can buy uniforms that players wore years ago, or replicas, right down to hats and shoes. After the age of 36, Bonds hat size grew by two sizes, even though this is when he started shaving his head. His shoe size grew by THREE. There is one reasonable medical reason this would happen. Human Growth Hormone. These are facts you can look up through the sports memorabilia world. It was the one fact that convinced me completely. Go find his uniform, hat, and shoe size from early in his career, and compare them to now. It's proof to me. There is no current way to test for Human Growth Hormone.

Grand Jury testimony was leaked. Bonds stated that he had used 2 substances known as "The Clear" and "The Cream". He claims he thought they were flax seed oil. The defendants from BALCO stated that both substances were steroids.

He was also caught using amphetamines by the MLB when they were banned.
