If I were you I'd get one of the new "Pod" coffee brewers. There are all kinds of really great coffees, teas and hot cocoa that you can brew, one cup at a time. The mess is self contained in the pod. You simply need to fill the pot with water and wash your coffee cup. It turns off automatically so you don't have to worry about fire hazards.
Also, there's a new gizmo to make your own pods if you have a coffee you absolutely love that doesn't come in this format.
Happy college.

Absolutely. Glad you're thinking ahead!
I had some friends that only worked at night in our lab, from around 9 pm to 6 am. We always met at midnight for coffee and to talk.
Okay, that's a little extreme, but late night are a part of the deal and coffee sure does help. You might consider joining Gevalia, or some other coffee of the month club--not a bad investment! If nothing else, you'll graduate as a coffee connoisseur--and there might even be work for that!
Good luck!

This may come as a surprise but Taster's Choice instant coffeeis now SO improved that if I was back at college I would NOT buy a coffee maker.
I would buy a jar of Taster's choice, either regular or decaf (if you are one of those who find coffee disturbs your full night's sleep). I would use 1/2 tsp to a cup of boing water and if my room did NOT have a hot plate I would use (as I did in lots of places) a $1 immersion heater. Those are those little spiral heaters that you put in the cup, plug in to your outlet and it boils the cup of water in about 20 seconds.
In other words I would keep it simple. So often I have seen in dorms such a clutter and mess of stuff when someone brought a dripolator or percolator and then bags of coffee and all sorts of stuff messing up the room.

Are you living in a dorm? Check their policies about what appliances you're allowed to have. I doubt a coffeemaker would be a problem, and if you're a real caffeine hound then yes, great idea (if you don't mind sharing with other dormies, or with roomies if off-campus).
Try to get one of those with a thermal carafe that doesn't need a hot plate to keep the coffee warm--the hot plates tend to scorch the brew after a while, the thermal carafes don't keep it warm forever but they don't make it tast burnt either.

If you want to be, or are, addicted to caffeine. It'd be better to get off the addiction, before you start college, so you don't rely on something artificial to get you going, or keep you going.
Substitute getting enough sleep plus exercise for coffee, and see how you feel!

In my homestead, we've a Mr. coffee and it is approximately ten greenbacks and it somewhat is particularly reliable for the value. i've got had it for approximately 3 years, and we've by no ability had any complications. I have been given mine from walmart. it is somewhat low priced in spite of the undeniable fact that it works like magic. you ought to attempt it, very inexspensive!

I'd rather get the jungle juice vats so I can get the college girls messed up even faster. Strange but nice things happen when girls get drunk.
