This is a refurbished open box computer, which means basically someone bought it, it broke, and now they have fixed it and are sending it back out. Hence, it only comes with a 3 month warranty, which is a definite drawback. In addition, the specs are very very low end. Look for a new computer, if you are on a budget visit your local Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Office Max, etc. and you can usually find a good new laptop for around $600.

EDIT: After a bit of searching, found a great deal for you:http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Compaq-Presario-15-4-Widescreen-Notebook-PC-F572US/sem/rpsm/oid/185304/catOid/-12963/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do
truly miles better than the one you are looking at, and only $50 more.

No. It is basically a decent XP computer that someone loaded Vista Home Basic on. Vista Home Basic is used instead of Vista Home Premium when a computer is underpowered. It will run slow enough that you will always regret buying it.

For Vista:
Intel Celeron M 420 1.60GHz = Slow
Vista Home Basic = Avoid
512 MB RAM = For Vista basic increase to 1GB
For Vista Home Premium get 2GB

Vista Basic Lacks these Features found in Vista Home Premium
Windows Aero desktop
Windows Mobility Center and Tablet PC support
Windows Meeting Space
Windows Media Center
Scheduled Backup
Windows DVD Maker
Windows Movie Maker in High Definition
Premium games

The processor is only a Celeron, but for the price you're getting good value. It's good that the computer is refurbished. Acer has been having a large number of machines returned to them for defects, so the refurbished has been put right.

Yes, that is an awesome deal BUY IT.

But when you get it, uninstall the CRAP and SAMPLES that it came with. You might even switch to AVG Anti-virus, so you get more speed. Acer is good, even though the price is low.

But also GET MORE RAM. Consider added a 1GB module. Look up that system at http://www.coastmemory.com for an excellent deal on RAM. But also a guarantee that it will work.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

The specs don't look to good. A Toshiba Satellite M65-S9092 is a better laptop to get.

It's a good budget laptop for simple things such as checking email, doing word and surfing the internet.
