I just got a Land Rover Discovery 1998, I used to drive a Honda Accord and now a bmw 3 series. I have researched it and the cars are only 3-4 inches skinnier than the Rover. I like it but I feel nervous driving it and fearful of turns etc. How can I get over this? I like my Rover, just want to feel more comfortable driving it. Any suggestions? New SUV driver, Lady driver.

there's nothing wrong with lady drivers,it pays to be cautious for a while in a different vehicle,it s actually bigger than the car was,and its also different that's why your having a time getting used to it,i think we all go through something like that when we trade or get a newer one, you,ll get over it though ,the more you drive it the more you,ll learn the way it handles, and reacts when you turn and use the brakes on it,enjoy it,those are nice vehicles, they drive good, but different than ordinary vehicles do,good luck on it.

its not the length of the suv its the height that make you feel you are in a longer car. In the UK I drove a rover 820i ( rover sterling) I swapped it for a Vauxhal fronterra suv. The rover was longer than the SUV but the SUV was a lot taller making me feel it was massive.
What you have to remember is that you cannot take corners as fast in the suv . Basically be patient and take your time to learn how the suv handles. Drive around a quiet neighorhood to get used to it. Dont believe the crap that people will say that its easy to tip over a landrover. Mercedes proved this to be a false advertising campain in the usa and that the american SUV s like the ford explorer, bronco, were easier to roll over.
A friend of min ein the UK had a Discovery and yes it felt very strange going around a corner and the body does roll a lot and lean. He said it took him some time to get used to that feeling. So you are not alone... even the gentleman drivers take time to get used to the Discovery..
Take care and happy driving

You're riding higher up. Just be very careful around sharp turns -- with a high center of gravity, you're more likely to flip it over. I've been driving SUVs for years and it takes a little bit to get used to the "altitude".

You are not alone!!! Bigger, taller vehicle and an odd feeling while driving it. You made a pretty big change in rides. I'll suggest just taking it slow and giving yourself extra room where ever you go. Give it some time, it will feel better but it won't ever feel like your Honda.

It's just that you are sitting higher in the Rover. It will take some getting used ot but you will get it soon. Give it some time. good luck.
