The technical term is Orthostatic-hypotension. When you are at rest your blood vessels Dilate (get larger) because less pressure is needed to push the blood into your head. This lowers you blood pressure and allows your heart to relax while you are at rest. When you get back up, your blood vessels constrict (get smaller) and create higher blood pressure. This allows your heart to fight gravity and push the blood back up into your head. The effects of orthostatic-hypotension can be reduced by sitting up for two or three minutes before standing. If this is happening while you are already in a sitting position, try excercising your legs for a while before standing. This should get your heart rate elevated and increase you blood pressure. The root of the problem could be lack of sleep, long term stress, a bad diet, or a lack of something called Angiotenison II. This a hormone created in the pancreas that causes you blood vessels to contract. If you are getting plenty of sleep and have a good diet you should see a doctor to have some blood work done. I hope this helps. Drop me line and let me know if everything turns out O.K.

You probably have low blood pressure. Do you get dizzy after bending over too? I have the same problem (and have had it all my life) and I was told I have low blood pressure. Another thing that can cause this syndrome is certain medications. Are you taking any prescription meds? If so check out the literature they give you when you get new prescriptions. This sheet should tell you about what you can expect while taking new meds.

When you sit for long periods of time your blood does not circulate correctly and when you stand up that is the blood rushing from the top portion of your body to the lower portion. It is the same reason your legs or feet fall asleep when sitting for long periods.Try shifting more or just taking short breaks to stand up and stretch.

Hi There,
It is likely something called 'orthostatic hypotension.' This is where you have a drop in blood pressure when quickly standing up. It is often normal in healthy people. See this great link. BTW, I get it alot too!

i get it too, mostly in the summer. you just have low blood pressure. when you change the elevation of your head, your blood takes a second to register the new position and send blood to the brain, causing the brain to react with the dizziness and tunnel vision. just move slowly, and it shouldn't bother you too much. see a doctor if it really bothers you.

See your doctor. This may very well be Postural Hypotension. Your blood pressure not rising quick enough therefore a lack of oxygenated blood.

Your body's blood has "pooled" in your lower extremities and when you stand quickly, your heart pumps it to your brain in what pilots call a "red out" which simply too much too soon. Don't worry about this, it's normal.

It is your blood pressure dropping quickly. It happens to everyone occasionally, but if it is happening on a regular basis, you should bring it up to your doctor. It could be a sign of a more serious problem.

sounds like you need to go and get your blood pressure checked, you could be experiencing either very high blood pressure or orthostatic (standing) hypotension. Or it could be a heart related problem. You need to make a appointment with your physician.
