David Gilmour. He is unmistakable and instantly recognizable, especially his solos. Every note matters and he doesn't throw in fifty notes when ten is what's needed, meaning he doesn't play five hundred miles an hour just to say he can. No disrespect to the speed demons but I prefer to listen to more melodic solos and for me nobody does it better than David Gilmour.

Some other favorites are Ritchie Blackmore, Kirk Hammett (EARLY Metallica, not the crap they're doing now), Glen Tipton & KK Downing (Judas Priest), Stevie Ray Vaughan, Dave Murray & Adrian Smith (Iron Maiden), and of course, Hendrix.

Gotta go with Stevie Ray. There are a lot of good players mentioned above that I truly love, but for some reason Stevie is the only one that gets me hot and rocks me out. And he sure is an ugly F***! :)

Currently, one of the greatest guitarists would have to be Nels Cline. Besides his own side projects, he's recently been playing with Wilco. Over his career, he's worked with dozens of innovative artists. Most importantly, he's absolutely incredible live.

Definitely Michael Schenker of UFO, The Scorpions & MSG!!! His style influenced my guitar playing!!! Everybody always says Hendrix, Clapton, Santana, Page, blah blah blah but Michael Schenker was in the same league with all of those guitar players but never got his due!!
