I'm anti-abortion and anti-war, but I don't think it's hypocritical to oppose abortion and support the war on terror because abortion and war are two separate issues. Why try to reconcile them?

Because many people have trouble keeping two different concepts in their heads at once -- and even more are unwilling to put the time and effort into thinking about each position and actually evaluating your conclusions.
So, they wrap it all up in a pretty bow so that they don't have to think to hard -- it's a common tactic of fanatics from all ends of every spectrum.

I think the only reason anyone reconciles them is because we only have two parties. Sadly, in this country we "bundle" our issues so that if you are against abortion you must be "conservative" which means that you support the war, George Bush and everything he does and you must hate the amoral liberal scum that is the scourge of this country.
If, however, you are against the war, then you must feel like abortion is "a woman's right to do what she wants with her body" and not care about that child's rights and be against conservative authoritarian, pro big-business, cutting taxes for the rich and squashing the poor politics.
However, the truth is, we should really think about our own beliefs and not lump issues together as if one belief necessarily leads to the other. It is ok to be pro-environment, anti-abortion, anti-war, pro-economic growth if you want to, and no one should have a problem with that because freedome of belief and of expression are supposedly two things that make this country so wonderful right?

I am a Conservative Republican, who doesn't like abortion, I also don't care what Gays do, Hell, we have several couple in the group Iwe hang out with, As far as the war goes, either let the Army loose to do their jobs and win, or split, but don't for a minute think that bringing the troops home is gonna somehow "Protect" our borders....

Let me get this right!
You are opposed to fetuses being aborted, when none can even survive for longer than a few minutes until week 23.
But you are for people being murdered in Iraq, that are living and breathing, many children, in a war that had nothing to do with terrorist or 9/11!
I guess you can rationalize anything!
PS. I would say you are a hypocrite! Our country was never attacked by Iraq!
You can be anti abortion all you want. Never have one, but don't try and lay your views on others as you don't have to walk in their shoes, and you absolutely fail to support them AFTER they are born! Women aren't baby factories for the rich!

alanagkelly: It's really not weird to be anti-abortion and at the same time be pro-death penalty. The difference would be that someone sentenced to death has done something heinous to deserve their fate. The same cannot be said about unborn children. What did they do, other than have a mother who doesn't understand the concept of pre-pregnancy birth control ?

I don't understand you....it's ok to kill those that have made it here on the planet (actual births, children, women, collateral damage), but an embryo is wrong (because of course they have rights, sounds like liberalism for you conservatively minded). And for the pro lifers....every fertilization should be brought to this already over-populated, resource dwindling planet, and technology should not be used to help the situation. Meanwhile there already exist millions of kids that need good homes. And you doing nothing for them but want to legislate to have more....
