Most of the litter out there for ferrets doesn't work well at all. I wondered if it's ok to use non toxic cat litter pearls. Has anyone tried this type with any success?

I used to use cat litter all the time but got tired of the ammonia smell. I switched to Feline Pine and have never been happier!! Its a little more expensive but it lasts forever. You will still have to scoop twice a day BUT when you walk into your 'ferret room' all you will smell is a fresh pine scent and not the odor of urine.

Use a dust free litter like Scamp 99% dust free clay, Feline Pine pellets, Pine Fresh pellets, Cat Works, recycled newspaper pellets, etc. Avoid clumping sand and scented litters. These ferrets like to dig in, make a mess of the place, and the litter can get caught up their nose. The perfume can harm sensitive nasal passages or cause allergic reactions, and the clumping sand will expand and may clog your ferrets nose, eyes and throat! Place a little bit of soiled litter back into the clean pan to discourage kits from using the litter box as a sand or play box. DO NOT USE CEDAR OR WOOD SHAVINGS IN A FERRET'S CAGE. These can cause respiratory problems over a long period of time. Use old tee shirts or baby blankets for bedding. Ferrets are NOT rodents! Only 100% Bentonite crystals should be used.

I wouldn't use those pearls as I am not sure what they would do to a ferrets insides if accidently ingested.
I currently use either Yesterday's News and Feline Fresh or Feline Pine. There's also another wood base litter named Woody Pets that is acceptable to my ferts.
All the wood based litters fall apart and if left to dry leave a powdery residue in the box so it's best to use a solid scoop, not a slotted one, so you can get most of it out.

Some of our shelter Mom's use wood stove pellets as they are cheap and supposedly work just fine. I haven't tried them personally however, so I am not going to recommend them at this point. I do know that they are incredibly cheap though.
They are not always available everywhere as they are a seasonal product.

you ought to no longer use cat muddle for ferrets. The dirt isn't stable for their respiration tract. I used to apply the pellets that are for pellet burning stoves. they actually save the smell down too. It became cautioned to me by way of a woman that does ferret rescue in my section. they are very low priced besides. in case you could no longer locate the pellets, attempt a paper based muddle which incorporate carefresh - that is extra costly, or yesterdays information will artwork too.
