First would be helpful to know what type of vehicle. Numerous things can cause it to overheat. Also under what type conditions does it over heat? Going down the road? Stopped at a stop light, stop and go traffic. Anyways, it could be anything as little as the radiator fins are all clogged up externally not allowing it to cool like it should to something as major as a head gasket being blown or leaking. More info would be helpful for any of us trying to help you in this matter

There are many reasons for overheating. Lack of coolant, thermostat not working, fan not operating, radiator blocked ( external and internal,) kinked lower radiator hose, water pump not working, and the worst one being a craked head, block,or bad head gasket. It is best to buy the repair manul for your make of car to help determine and find the components that need to be repaired or replaced.
