I think that they want the gas to resonate into the air, and not get stuck in between their buttcheeks. They also don't want the fart to ripple in their buttcheeks so they open the buttcheek up. I haven't really seen anyone do this, but this is why I would do it! :)

Previous failures to lift the obstructing glut at the moment of an accidental liquid exhaust resulted in a nasty stain. By effecting a lift of the glut, part of the underclothing will catch the waterfall and fold into the crease when the glut is returned to it's natural position.

Because they don't want to amplify the fart (this is more common when people are sitting on plastic chairs). Also people want to share the joy of their stink.

I wonder why they do not censor "fart" but they bleep out, you know, the hole from which it comes. To answer: if it gets trapped, it tickles, plus for amplification.

it makes the noise louder.
it also increases the sensation of the air passing as the cheeks flap together in unison. SWEET FARTING GOODNESS!! AHHHHHHHHHH
