The Iraq war is now a hard core right wing war (the 32% that still support it) & if it is lost they are the ones who are going to take the biggest fall & they know it & it will be to a bigger enemy than Al Qaeda. It will be the biggest lost conservatives have had to the libs since Roe v. Wade & they will do anything in their power to make sure that US troops don't leave Iraq until at least Bush has left office even though they know the best US troops can do in Iraq is stalemate.

Which to conservatives is certainly better than a loss to the libs, only US troops will continue to be killed for conservatives benefit. Is that what patriotism means these days? Cover you own a*s?

Many are more concerned with being right than with the outcome -- so much so, that they vehemently reject even the concept of an honest evaluation of the situation.

Nothing can be settled by blindly asserting a point -- the only way to measure progress or success is to have clearly defined objective goals that can be measured objectively.

Anything else devolves to emotional rhetoric and blind faith -- which are not good foundations for political decisions.

patriotism means covering everyone's a*s, and if that collective *** happens to include your own, then there's nothing that can be done.

As they say, you have to cover your own *** before you can cover someone else's.

Besides, a stalemate for the US can still be a victory for the Iraqis. The most important member in the war is not the US, but Iraq, and if Iraq manages to maintain order, then the war has been won regardless of how it looks to the US. The US has to get used to being an aide when it interferes with foreign governments; the primary objective of the war has nothing to do with the US. [at least directly]

I think that is part of it.
Some people, especially on here, hate liberals so much that they have become hard core Bush supporters. Anything that is not exactly what they want to hear automatically gets pegged as being liberal and anti American so all the facts are never being considered.

Some people think patriotism means to not question the president. That simply is not true and is the furthest from patriotism. It is our job to make the president accountable. We can't do that if we give him a free pass.

Forget about the Libs, the rest of the world thinks we are getting our butts kicked, despite the best effort from our troops.
