I think that kids should have cell phones whenever they start babysitting, walking alone, or riding around the neighborhood alone, so you could call them if you need to find them. I started babysitting at age 12, so that's when I got my cell phone. I suggest prepaid in those situations, because they cost less and you only need to use them for emergencies. Before they start babysitting or being alone is too early to get a cell phone. If you think that that is too early, you should get your kid a cell phone at age 16 or 17 when they get their driver's license so you can always know where they are. Hope I helped and good luck! :)

I would say anywhere from 5th-8th grade, depending on if the kid does sports, or any other activities that they would be dropped off at. Also during middle school is when kids start going out with friends to the movies and whatever. They should definitely have one by high school. I got mine this past school year (7th grade) and I was the last one in my class to have a cell phone.

♥ When they are responsible enough. Some kids are mature enough where they can get a [[pre-paid]] cell phone at a pretty young age because they know that they have to use their allowances to put minutes on it. Otherwise a kid shouldnt get a phone unless they can pay for it. You dont want them running up a bill that you have to pay for because you [[thought]] they were responsible enough.

It depends on the kid, some are responsible enough at 7, others are still to dumm at 18... it also depends on the situation, all my kids (8-13-17-19y/o) have cellphones so I can get in touch with them when I need to
