Wear light clothing when mowing & carry a water bottle on your person so you can stay hydrated. The best time to mow is early in the morning or after the sun goes down.

I live in Missouri and it gets hot here as well. The worst part of the HOT though is the humidity.
When the weather is as hot and dry as it is now
I don't mow! The grass is almost brown and we are waiting for the fall rains to start. End of August or in September.
If however I were to mow when it's hot I would mow after the moisture dries on the grass and carry a Humongous jug with water/ice.

It's almost impossible since the grass is wet/humid so any evaporative wraps won't work. However you can freeze items to wrap around your neck, they are OK for awhile. You'll need a bunch though. Mowing in cooler temps is much better, unless you do this 8 hours a day. Hat, lots of water, long sleeve but very light fabric......cloth keeps the sun off the skin and light weight allows sweat to evaporate.

Mow in the very late afternoon or early evening (6-7 PM)

I start at 8am, or at 7pm. I'm also rotating and doing the front on Saturday and the back on Sunday, because each yard takes about 1/2 hour to mow, then another 1/2 hour to trim/edge.

I live on the Texas Gulf Coast and you're right, it's hot. Try a wet wash cloth or hand towel around your neck. Some places (even Walmart, I think) sell some things you put in your freezer and then tie them around your neck. They're cushiony and keep the back of your neck cool. Anything wet around a pulse point will help. Good luck!

rip out the lawn and stop following some nostalgic pastoral idea of ascetics in the garden!

I don't mow.

some places sale these neck coolers its like an ice pack but its for the neck.or else take a towel and wrap it in a circle stitch it up on one end and down the middle so the ice will not fall out. leave one end open put in your ice fill it up wrap a rubber band around. there you go wrap around your neck.fill back up as needed.
