The meteor shower will begin on Sunday, August 12 around 9pm local time (no matter which time zone you are in) and will go through Monday, August 13 around dawn. The best time to watch is closer to midnight or later to see the most meteors. To see the shower look towards the Northeast Horizon so if you are in Mississippi look towards North Carolina. Make sure you are about an hour outside of any major city in a rural part of town so that there are no lights to interfere with the show. Good Luck!

It is everywhere and is already going on. The meteor stream is hitting the half of the Earth between midnight and noon the next day. Just before dawn Earth's rotation puts you in the best position, but any time after local midnight and you should see some from almost anywhere on Earth, except far south places like Australia, southern South America and southern Africa which are not going to get a good show. These are northern hemisphere meteors.

The Perseids are occurring now, but the best time is supposed to be after midnight Sunday, 8/12. Go anyplace you can away from the city lights (go north and east if possible). The meteors will be in any part of the sky, but will seem to eminate from Perseus, which, just around and after midnight will be coming up in the northeastern sky. You do not have to look that direction...the meteors can appear anywhere, it's just that if you "follow them back" their path will lead you to Perseus. Oh, and take liquids and (believe it or not) some warmer clothes--even during summer mornings can be cool.

There was an article in The NY times that said the shower would be on the 12th and 13th at 9:00 I believe. Also there is a total lunar eclipse on the 20th. Have fun stargazing :D

You'll be able to see it. It'll be northwest of the Perseids and Mars, starting the main event at about 9 PM of August 12th and going on to peak before dawn on August 13.
