Dude, just move already. There is only so much Answers can give. Take a leap. Cost of living in sydney is cheap enough. Obviously if youare relocating you would be looking at Au$1000 plus salary.
as for cabs, they just went up, so an average 10 km journey will cost around $15. Just make sure the driver goes direct, and not the "scenic" route for tourists, which will make that 10k journey 25 k

Taxis are easy to get most of the time but you might have to wait when they are much in demand late in the evening and in the early hours of the morning. Please remember that Australia does not have a tipping culture. It is not necessary to tip cab drivers. Generally, round up the fare to the nearest dollar and wait for your change, it will come with good grace. You will find drivers who will round down too so for a $25.20 they will ask for $25. Don't, however, presume they will do this.

It really depends on what time of day you want a cab. Obviously at 2am free cabs are going to be hard to find. Cabs can be expensive depending on where you want to go. If you want to go the airport you are better of catching the train or taking the airporter shuttle bus.

They are impossible to get during changeover which I think is around 3.30pm. they can get expensive but I suppose it depends what you are used to. a fare from the airport to the northern beaches (around35min) would cost about $70.
