The plot sounds familiar but I can't think of what it was called.

No "Premonition" is not the same as "The Lake House." They are two different movies with unique, distinct stories.
While they are both dramas that deal with time the storyline/plot for each movie is totally different. However, I don't want to give away the plot, so I won't tell you specifics. I think that's pretty inconsiderate when people do that on here.
Anyway, I've seen them both and liked each one. I highly recommend Premonition and I think you should see it.

The Lake House? The new Premonition is a remake, btw.
I mean they both have something to do with the past and present/future don't they?

They are definitely not the same. The Lake House is about living years apart and finally meeting. Premonition, which happens to be a remake, is about seeing something that had not happened yet and in its own bizzare way seem as if it did not.
