Our police are being militarized, our liberties taken away, we are becoming the society that germany had in the 1930's. "YOUR PAPERS, PLEASE" sounds a lot to me like "LET'S SEE SOME ID." The crime rate will always be high as long as we continue the war on drugs.

Bruce J. That is not a good attitude.

It all has to do with the war on drugs, jake. The reason there are so many police, and the reason they can harrass, search people, and violate their civil rights. for more click the following link:

"army dirt mover" that is the common argument, but I am not a drug user. I am only interested in preserving our civil liberties. Since you don't appreciate your freedom, somebody has to do it.

"army dirt mover" - we shouldn't "give up" the war on drugs because it is "too difficult"....we should try a different strategy, because this one is not working. It is only causing more problems....just like the war in Iraq. The government seems to like wars that can't be won.

I agree with you. First the gov. cannot legislate morality. It has tried and failed (prohibition which gave the rise to organized crime and many other unsavory folks--the KEnnedy's money came from prohibition......). This country spends enough money on drug control to completely payoff the national deficit. Those that are incarcerated for drugs are still able to get it if they want it badly enough. People are always going to catch a buzz somewhere, somehow. In answer to your secondary question, yes, this further gives the gov. a means of privacy invasion by requiring id for EVERYTHING. There is even a push for a national id system which I am TOTALLY against. It infurates me that the gov. bases all of this on the line that they know what is "best" for the individual for the greater good of the whole. That is how communism, socialism, fascisim all began with roots in monetary gain for the absolute rulers.............

It is interesting to note that the word sometimes translated "witchcraft" and "sorcery" in the Bible is the Greek word "pharmokos." There are merchants operating legally (if not ethically) and illegally that have no other interest in the effects of drugs upon our society other than monetary increase. Just as the bottom line for sorcerers in New Testament times was money, so is the bottom line for the sorcerers of today. Keep people stoned and they are happy to give you their money so they can stay stoned!
All this to say there is much more going on with the chemical dependency problem in the world than the use of "recreational mood enhancers." Globally speaking, the drug problem is akin to a plague. It is rampant, ongoing and seemingly inevitable. Many would question, "Why not simply stop the war?"
The truth be known, there is much good that has gone unreported in the attempt to stop people from chemically destroying themselves. One life prevented from entering into the hell of meth addiction is well worth the war. One life rescued from the prisons of the drug empire of sorcery makes the endeavor of the War on Drugs a worthwhile and beneficial endeavor. The War on Drugs has worked and is working. The sorcerers who are losing money because of the war would have us believe the lie that the fight is useless. Their spells will deceive many but not all.

First, we don't watch our prison population 24 hours a day.
Second, the 'War on Drugs' has always been a farce. Just like the 'War on Terror.' Both problems exsisted long before we turned them into a 'war'. The real issue is why Americans allow politics of fear to govern their lives and take away their rights. The answer: Because the average American is an under-educated, selfish moron. When it comes down to it...I don't really care. Let the morons run loose. I'm tired of fighting the system to give power back to people that don't appreciate their freedom to begin with.

The war on drugs is right up there with Prohibition. Nice idea, but not realistic. They should control recreational drugs the way they do alcohol. It's not a cure all, but at least no one is getting gunned down over it.
If you really want something to worry about, try REAL ID. THAT'S the equivalent to Nazi Germany.

So, you want the cops to leave you alone so you can use drugs? In prison, the inmates have very little to do. Recreational drugs do not make you better, they just kill time. The roads are already dangerous enough with drunk drivers. What do you think would happen if the cops just stayed home? Give up the war because it's to difficult? No.

I was watching CSPAN this weekend and the speaker suggested the U.S. buy the poppy crop from the Afghan farmers who grow it rather than let it go to the open market where it funds terrorists and drug lords. They said it would be cheaper dealing with it at that point and much less of a problem socially. Strange approach but maybe not a bad idea.

The war on drugs is being waged by Pfizer, GSK, Eli Lilly, Smiling bob, and of course our current decider in queef.
No wonder various substances are "illegal". But if you can outsource the production, monopolize the sale, and advertise, get hooked up by W and gang, well you win the war.

No.
Legalize drugs now. Tax this newly legal product heavily.
Use these new funds for prevention, and rehabilitation.
This act would save lives, increase global stability, decrease corruption, crime, gangs, & terrorism. It takes the profit from this problem out of the hands of criminals. It put's it in the hand's of government for prevention and rehabilition. You catch more bee's with honey, than with vinegar.

Unfortunately no. The failure of Prohibition is proof enough. People must want to fill their lives with something other than drugs, or tobacco, or alchohol. As long as there are consumers...someone will find a way to supply the demand.
