Because spurious attacks and mindless namecalling are effective when speaking with people who don't think about what they're hearing.

And if you can get people emotionally upset, they rarely look at how faulty the logic is.

Because they exist on inflamatory arguments, and rely on built-in prejudice and bigotry to make sure that their "facts" will not be checked. It is much easier to simply smear homosexuals as "deviants" and "criminals" than to deal with the homosexual community's legitimate arguments for equality.

Make sure to realize, though, that both sides of the political spectrum have been known to do this...it's just that the current crop of Republican demagogues do it better.

I answered a question on how homosexuality had undermined the Catholic church and that is why priests are pedophiles.
