When a registered sex offender has a child, should the child be taken away IMMEDIATELY and put in a foster home?

Should the registered sex offender not even be allowed to look at his/her newborn baby?

Call me strange, but I don't think that the child should necessarily be taken away and put into a foster home. There are so many different situations.

I do not think that a child should live with a sex offender who has molested anyone under the age of 12. And I do not think that they should automatically get to raise their children.

But I do think they should be able to see the child immediately if they are free. I think they should AT LEAST have the right to supervised visitation unless and until they do something to have that right taken away FOLLOWING the birth of the child.

It just all depends on the degree of the crimes and what was done, like what kind of sex offender the person is. Were they with children or adults only? What kind of offense was committed and have they completed treatment and other programs for help.

I am a born again Christian and none of us is without sin. Jesus died for everybody, including the sex offender. The sex offender has a chance to repent sins just like anyone else. If a person is a true believer and has repented their sins to God and has accepted Jesus as their Saviour, there is absolutly no reason why that person cannot be treated human and with love as everyone else wants to be.
I just had to add this as a believer myself.

Most people who are registered sex offenders are not pedophiles, they are rapist!

I know of no state that will allow a convicted pedophile (Fixated), especially if convicted on their own children to have any contact with them. In many states that is grounds for termination of their rights. Of course there will always be a backward few, like Oregon! They are so stupid they put children on the Central Registry and leave off the people who molested them!

It depends on the offenders situation. Don't get me wrong, I think pedophiles a repulsive and wicked. However, some registered offenders were 18 year olds who were with a consenting 15-16 year old. See what I mean? However if it's a pedophile who has victimized innocent children, they should never be around any kids, even their own.

Remember that "registered sex offender" means anyone convicted of any sexually related crime.

That could include getting caught skinny dipping or streaking in college, getting caught having sex with your wife in a state park, having with someone else in high school who was a month too young to be legal -- being a "sex offender" is a huge category.

It's not the same as a child molester.

Sex offenders fall into a lot of different categories. Just because someone is a sex ofender, doesn't mean they molest children. In some states indecent exposure (taking a leak in public after a night of drinking) can be considered a sex crime. It could also mean a high school ids slapped a girl on her bottom.... We ned to put more responsibility on counselors to give accurate info to the courts.

Well he isnt suppose to be around children so yes take the child away from him. But allow supervised visitiations. I know sex offenders do have kids years after they did what they did, so there must be ways for them to be able to keep their children too. This is really a touchy subject.

This angers me. I am a registered so and I have a child. besides the point I was a child myself when I offended 10 years old I sat in jail for 6 1/2 years and have to register for 10 years I don't like but I deal with it because I deserve it. I would love for some one to try and take my kid his is my whole reason for holding on in this world. so those of you who are so quick to judge a person get to know them first. I was quite literally molested since the day I was born up until I got locked up. forgive me but ASSHOLES **** YOU I AM A GOOD FATHER TO MY SON.

In most cases I would say yes, but the state laws on what qualifies as a sex offender is a broad classifcation. So I would say it depends on the type of offense that they committed.

you do realize that not all registered sex offenders are pedofiles right? what about the 12 yr old boy that is registered because he smacked a school mate on the butt or the old man that is registered because he grabbed a girl by the arm and yelled at her when she ran in front of his truck and he almost hit her?
BUT if they are a pedofile then yes
