Gays have to fight for certain rights primarily because of their lifestyle, sexuality, 'choice', "abhorant" behavior, etc.
but let us face it. because there are many amongst us who practice "abhorant" sexual behavior also ( the same type sex as is practiced by gays only between man and woman, bi-sexuals, those who engage in threesomes or foursomes, etc.) Yet no one is questioning their behavior.
And Congress wants to limit rights?
Lifestyle or not, at least gays are coming out of the closet.
Those practicing deviant behavior amongst so-called "straights" continue to get away with it with no restrictions on 'rights'.
Seems to be a double standard here.

there is a double standard.
many sodomy laws have been taken off the books because sodomy entails many things including oral sex, anal sex, same-sex relations, sex with animals, and many other things. the cities and states that do this then make specific laws (IE 'no sex with animals' in place of 'no sodomy').
some leaders have even made comments such as 'we don't intrude on people's marriages' which means straight people can practice forms of sodomy if they are married but gay people can be arrested.
there was even one case where a neighbor knew that the gay couple next door were having sex. he called the cops and said he thought there was a fight. the cops broke down the door and found there was no fight but the men were arrested for sodomy. (its debatable whether or not the cops knew the man was lying). It was the couple's word against the neighbor for filing a reporting a false crime.
the medical science community states that its not a choice and that homosexuality is not harmful/just as healthy as heterosexuality.

It depends on which rights you are talking about fighting for.
First of all, if you are talking about the right to be a homosexual, this isn't the 1800's anymore. While I freely admit that I haven't done a lot of research on the topic, I don't think anyone is sitting in prison for being a homosexual.
If you're talking about the right to live together and enter into legal contracts (owning a house together, visitation rights if you're sick, etc), no one is stopping you with that either.

You're absolutely right.
You'll like this. Gay-bashers like to complain that it's anal sex they abhor. Well, I did a little math. Heteros have anal sex too, right? I've seen on surveys that 5% of straights say they've had anal sex. That's not unreasonable to believe. Now, how many gays are there? It's about 3% of the population (the old 10% figure is too high, as homophobes love to point out). Half are lesbians - no anal sex there! Assume all gay men have anal sex (which they don't, but that's another gimme) and you have 1.5% of the population having anal sex as gays.
So that means more HETEROS have anal sex than HOMOs.
Yet the gay-bashers are all up in arms about the gays.
Even if gays had more anal sex, the gay-bashers don't go around complaining about anal sex, they complain about gays. If they really cared about anal sex, they'd be on crusades against anal sex.

gay means happy. gay does NOT mean homosexual.
what rights do homosexuals have to fight for? if they are an American citizen, they have been given too many rights already. homosexuals used to be thrown into sanitariums. they are mentally ill. that is why they are deluded in thinking they were born that way.
I don't want to hear anything about homosexual sickness. i don't want to see homosexuals parading and pirouetting around. if they insist on it, i will remove my patronage of the area's businesses and i will remove my family from having to witness such degenerate devolution.( for the edification of evolutionists)
I don't want the government to allow mentally ill homosexuals the same legal benefits as NORMAL heterosexual marriage.
I don't want the government to teach my six kids that homosexuality is okay, that it is not sinful, that it is just SLIGHTLY different from mom and dad families.
i don't care what sick things you do in PRIVATE. DO NOT try to make all of us accept what you do in PUBLIC.
I am a monogamous heterosexual male, i am in love with my beautiful monogamous heterosexual female wife, and i will DO MY BEST to teach my two sons and four daughters to WAIT until after they marry the love of their individual lives to have NORMAL monogamous heterosexual relations with their marriage mate.
As for anal sex - the Bible shows through common sense that sex between a man and his female wife is for REPRODUCTIVE PURPOSES, and for pleasurable intimacy that displays the heterosexual couple's lasting love for one another. Anal sex canNOT accomplish this, because it is demented and unnatural. Therefore, anal sex should NOT be practiced by a Christian husband and his wife.
There is NO room for a double standard for Christians. None.

No I wouldn't call it a double standard. Homosexuals enjoy all the same individual rights as everyone else. I don't believe practitioners of the other "abhorrent" acts you cited are looking for validation from the government.

Of course it's a double standard.
People are only bad if they're doing something different than you are doing -- otherwise, where would be be? People actually taking responsibility for their own actions?
Heavens to Betsy.

not an expert, but i think the people in congress (or the White House) are either sociopaths or have such huge egos that they think they're allowed indiscretions the rest of us don't.
