DCF would be a good place to start. Also file a motion with the court to have a Guardian Ad Litem appointed, although once DCF gets involved, that will and can be established through them. Look within your community for an organization called Help Now, they specialize in counseling Therapy for young children who've been abused, sexually or otherwise. Encourage him to draw out his feelings on paper, even at his age, this will help. At the times that he mimics inappropriate behaviors, at his age, it should be relatively easy to redirect him to another activity to take his mind off what he was doing. Do not admonish him for those behaviors, just redirect him. The Doctor that examined him is required by law to file a report with the Dpartment of Family and Children Services. Yes, she should file a report herself. While there is legal aide services for people that can not afford an attorney, alot of times they are not experienced enough to do much good. That is why I suggested the Guardian Ad Litem. They are there to see to the best interest of the child, period. Make sure that when you do start the child in counseling, that they send directly to the courthouse a symtematic report. That will carry more weight with the judge than anything. Though they are not suppose to receive information in this manner, believe me, they will and do.

Thank them. Thank them until when you thank them they yell at you because you thank them too much. Make sure you let them know WHY you're thanking them, though. You can also write a thank-you card out, and if it isnt too akward, give them a little friend-hug. be supportive back to them. if they have a problem or are feeling sad or sick or whatever, do little things that will help improve their situation. most importantly, just act nice and friendly and happy towards and around them. they will see how much happier they made you after the problematic time you had that you talked about.

Take them out to dinner - all 3 of you if they get along, separately if they don't.
Buy them a drink.
Take them to a sporting event.
If they are girls - do a gift card or flowers.
Ultimately - just saying thank you and telling them what they have meant to you should mean a lot.
You seem like a good friend!

By taking them out to a real nice dinner. A place that has a bar .. like Bennigans or somewhere like that. While having drinks before dinner, tell them how much you appreciate all they've done for you and how much they mean to you.

I think it would be sufficient if you simply put your feelings into words and tell them. You can also give them each a nice 'thank you for your friendship' kind of card and write a sincere paragraph inside it.

Build a website and express your sentiments that way. You'd be killing many birds with one stone.
Anyway, write them a nice tribute on the website or blog. They could also read other people's tributes too that you wrote for them.
Cost effective too!

Invite them over to a nice home cooked meal and then maybe give them a gift certificate to their favorite store.

Either take them out to dinner together, or invite them to your house for some home cooking.
