first most doctors say you shouldn't start working out hard core until the age of 16. because it could have long lasting effects On the body. but i was a MLB in high school and i would suggest working lower body, speed, and quickness and yes there is a deff. in speed and quickness. and work on giving more punishment then taking it.

Do lot's of wind sprints, jogging with ankle wieghts. Watch the other linebackers in practice, look for ways to copy them and improve what they do. At 13 you want to work on core strength like.....push ups, sit ups, pull ups, swimming and running. As far as "how fast", well, work on your technique. The most important thing a linebacker must have is "INTENSITY"...play like a wild dog.

It really depends on the defensive scheme that your coach employs. If you guys run a basic 4-3, you will be involved in almost every play. Everybody seems to concentrate on their upper body, but your explosive strength will come from your legs. Lots of squats and leg presses.

Focus on hitting and getting hit. I played OLB in high school and your involved in almost every play, whether it be getting blocked or tackling. My advice is to just be ready to hit someone and be hit.
