Holland is a region within the Netherlands. It's split into two areas (noord-holland and zuid-holland). It's like California to the US (Northern and Southern Californias) and asking what people who live in California call themselves.
I live in North Holland (gemeente Velsen - Gemeente is like a county) but I've rarely heard people refer to themselves as "hollanders" but technically they are "hollanders".
Outside of the Netherlands, people sometimes call the entire country Holland but that's actually incorrect.
To recap
Country language people
The Netherlands Dutch Dutch
(nederland) (nederlands) (nederlander)
Region
Holland Dutch Hollander

Well, I must admit that, at one time, I assumed that the names "Holland" and "the Netherlands" referred to the same country, and that all residents of this country were "Dutch". Could someone straighten me out here?

Not stoned.
Most Dutch do not use drugs in any form.
The majority of the Dutch have not used it even once!!!!!
And of the people who use drugs only a few use the drugs often.
And very few use drugs that make you addicts.
You will find more addicts per 1000 inhabitants in the USA and most other countries than in the Netherlands.

Actually, all of the above answers are wrong... People who live in holland are called "people who live in holland"...
The aswer "Dutch" is wrong... First of all, everybody assumes that with "holland" you mean the country the Netherlands, but you could also mean holland, texas or holland, michigan or whatever other holland...
Second, if by holland you DO mean the country the Netherlands the answer is still wrong because then the answer would be "residents of holland" as there's a whole bunch of people who live in "holland" who are not Dutch...
Anyway, "what are pepole called who live in holland called"... "Apart from stoned"...
Let me run that by you again..."what are pepole called who live in holland called"... "Apart from stoned"...
And then everybody goes; Dutch! Dutch!! no, DUTCH... I know the answer, DUTCH!!!!! It's Dutch!!!! No, Wait, DUTCH!!!!
And then of course Willeke goes; Ah, but we're not ALL stoned!!!!
Here's my question... How can you NOT be stoned and be involved in THIS!?!?!
--------------------------------------------
to allenbmeangene;
Before "Kingdom of the Netherlands", our current official name, we were "Republic of the United Netherlands" and one of these united Netherlands, the richest and most powerful, was Holland... Others were Brabant, Friesland, Zeeland, Utrecht, etc... In fact, what is now Belgium was also part of this republic...The former republic split up and the north became Kingdom of the Netherlands and the south became Kingdom of Belgium... The former state Holland, which includes the three largest Dutch cities, Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague/Den Haag is now two (out of twelve) Dutch provinces, Noord Holland and Zuid Holland...
The country The Netherlands is popularly called Holland and the people of the Netherlands (people with the Dutch nationality) are officially called the Dutch. People who live in the Netherlands but not in the Holland part of the Netherlands sometimes don't like it when they are referred to as Hollanders or the entire country as Holland...
and, not everybody who lives in the Netherlands is Dutch, although most are... Just like not everybody who lives in the USA is American, although most are...
you straight now? ;)
-------------------------------
to Dutchability;
Actually, a county is something we don't have in the Netherlands... It's not the same, but our provincies are like US states (they have their own regionally elected sub-government) and our gemeentes are like US cities (both have mayors and city councils)... There's no layer in between that compares to a US county... although it's true that I think that in the USA they don't have what we have in Holland where a gemeente sometimes is several smaller towns/cities with one city council... But I could be wrong... That's not the same as a county though...
Of course now everything has changed and like somebody who lives in the country USA in the state of California in the city of Los Angeles we now live in the EU (USA), subdivision the Netherlands (California) in the province/county Brabant, Zeeland, Friesland, etc in the city of whatever and our national government now compares more to the California state government than it does to the US government in Washington DC (our federal government/DC is in Brussels now) and like we have gotten used to saying Euro instead of Gulden we probably will be getting used to thinking of Brussels as our capital instead of Amsterdam. (although I don't think US counties have governments like our provincies do)...

i'm specific it has to do with something of while they have been youthful, that they use to understand a canines named Fido. Or in all likelihood it must be that that is ordinary to declare and it catches the canines interest. extremely some human beings call their canines that way. call out names randomly and notice which one receives the canines interest maximum.
