Actually, it doesn't. Most folk justify this by quoting from a chapter in the old testament called "Leviticus", which traditionally is a list of rules as given by Moses in ancient Jewish Law. It doesn't talk about being gay or lesbian as such, because such terms only really came into common usage in the 20th century, and refer to people based on the concept of sexual orientation. Leviticus however deals with procedures, customs and actions, rather than classes of people.

The Leviticus section most often quoted is...

Leviticus 18:22 - "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination."

The most common counterpoint to this is quoting some of the other rules that get most commonly ignored today, e.g.

Leviticus 11:13 "And these are they which ye shall have in abomination among the fowls; they shall not be eaten, they are an abomination: the eagle, and the ossifrage, and the osprey,"

But why?

Leviticus 3:17 "It shall be a perpetual statute for your generations throughout all your dwellings, that ye eat neither fat nor blood."

The blood seems fair enough, but the fat prohibition would cause problems for most fast food outlets.

I'm sure that others could find other quotes from there and elsewhere in the Bible that would show rules that are either ignored or contradicted. My personal opinion is that Leviticus is being quoted out of context, period. Why? Because it's Moses talking to the Hebrews and saying how they should live, and most of the rules probably make sense for a nomadic community living in the Middle East. But, why apply them to Christians, and why enforce them on everyone else?

I am not Christian myself (though I did live with a one for some years) but it was my understanding that idea of Jesus making a sacrifice was all about making a new covenant between God and Man. If that's the case, then why should the old rules as such apply?

You be whatever you want to be. If you're satisfied the way you are, then you be gay. Sure, the bible says you not to be gay, but you can't stop your own emotions from taking off.

No one knows for sure that there is an after life, that all gays are punished by God and sent to hell. You can't stop being gay, so might as well take the only chance you have. Plus, the bible was written by PEOPLE. You can't always trust everyone, now can you?

No dear, it isn't bad, but it is dang tough most of the time, as it seems you are finding out. If you are gonna live this lifestyle, you;re gonna have to be tough and be you, not what or who someone else tells you to be.

The Bible? Well, there are a couple things in there about it, but also about eating pork, women wearing makeup & pants, can't eat shrimp, etc. You gotta read and understand all of that yourself. I think you probably get the picture already from the other posts here. Are you gonna go to hell?? Maybe, maybe not. But being gay (nor living the lifestyle) is NOT whats gonna do it. Trust me on that one dear.

One other thing for you to consider. Many of the zealots will tell you that homosexuality is a sin. I am not convinced of that, but I AM convinced that IF it is, there are NO rankings of sin anywhere in the scriptures. One sin is as bad as the next. No worse, no better. That includes lying, stealing, murdering, BEARING FALSE WITNESS (**hint hint**), adultery, fornication, etc. SOOOoooo, when the zealots remove ALL sin from their own lives, THEN i might listen to their comments. Until then, let them clean around their own back door before they worry about mine or yours.

**AMEN??**

The Bible says a lot of things, like pi = 3 and the the Earth is flat, and that you should be put to death if you don't honor the Sabbath or your father and your mother. If you want to be guided by Bronze age texts thats your business, but modern medical science indicates that being gay is something you are "born with" and either you are or you aren't.

The Bible verse I think you're referring to is Leviticus 20:13: " 'If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads."

Although I believe that a gay lifestyle is not what God wants for us, I do believe that homosexuals deserve to be treated with kindness. I am straight. I understand that gays don't choose their sexuality like I didn't choose to love chocolate cake- I just do. However, as a Christian, if I WERE gay I think the right way to live that life would be as celibate so as not to disappoint my Savior.

But that's just me. You have to make your own life choice and be willing to defend how you lived and the kind of person you were when/if you meet your maker. You obviously have an interest in religion or you wouldn't have sited the Bible.

I wish you Peace.

I think that depends on your own view. I personally see nothing wrong with being gay. Who am I to judge people and tell them the love they feel for each other is wrong? As for it saying it is wrong in the bible you must remember not everyone has the same beliefs as the bible and besides it also says Thou shalt not commit murder and adultery but yet each of those sins are rampant.

Yeah, I definitely think it's bad - ESPECIALLY for men! Aside from the fact that it goes against God and Nature, I have a more personal reason for my disapproval. The fact is, straight men have become an endangered species. See, I'D kinda like to have a man of my own, too, before I'm dead and gone! But that has evidently become a hopeless dream, due to the fact that nowadays, what with everyone and his uncle "coming out" in DROVES, there aren't any STRAIGHT men left!!! Oh, there are a FEW out there, but they're ALREADY married, and even half of THEM are on the "down low", as they call it! It seems divorced, straight women who are beyond their '20s just DON'T STAND A CHANCE these days!!! So yes, the problem is rampant..... and very very "BAD"!

According to the bible it is bad, it doesn't single out homosexuality tho. It speaks of "unnatural" sex. Which is homosexuality, and other "unnatural" sexual behavior between the same sex AND opposite sex.
So if a guy and a girl are having oral, or anal sex, it is just as bad to GOD as being a homosexual. It's all "unnatural".
But I wonder if some people can help being gay?
I know this guy, he prisses like a woman, his voice is even feminish. Now that looks like something went wrong in the genetic makeup to me.
I wonder if God will hold them accountable, if they are indeed born that way...because there are some that are. They sound and act and walk like women, and can't help it.
All I know is all sexual sin appears to be "bad" to GOD. Whether it be gay, or straight.
Anyone can repent and go to heaven!

Actually as far as I know the bible only makes a vaugue reference to lying with other men. Unless you're a fundamentalist I wouldn't beat urself up about it, it won't change the way your brain works. And don't let people tell you it's not natural - there is loads of evidence of it in the animal kingdom etc

It doesn't say not be gay in the bible. It says don't have sex out of marriage. And then it says that marriage should be done with a man and a woman.

But why are you relying on a 2000 year old book which has to be constantly re-interpreted to apply to modern life for your life decisions anyway?
