Last I heard he failed to raise enough money to buy a seat at the table.

Neither Fred Thompson or any of his supporters have referred to him as the 'GOP JESUS'. He is still running his undeclared campaign. It is not POSSIBLE to fail at fund-raising when you never ATTEMPT to raise funds. You don't 'buy a seat'. There is probably enough money in YOUR bank account at this moment to file the paperwork to formally declare yourself a candidate. Running an effective campaign is to totally different issue.

He only raised half of what he claimed he could in his exploratory committee. First he was going to declare right after July 4th, now it's in September. He doesn't want to subject himself to the same scrutiny as the other candidates. He thinks he can waltz in, and not have to be vetted by the media or answer questions about his past at all, and if that isn't arrogant and naive I don't know what is. I read a recent article about him that pointed out he's been losing some of the support of Republican leaders because his campaign is a mess, staffers are leaving in droves because his wife is a bytch on wheels. Here's a small example of what he's going to have to explain, much like Mitt Romney:

Fred Thompson: Pro-Choice Republican
by Eric Dondero

On Abortion: "Government should stay out of it... The ultimate decision must be made by the women... Government should treat its citizens as adults capable of making moral decisions on their own." -- Fred Thompson, July 1994

But he's their conservative savior all right (rolling eyes).

Last I heard, he simply hasn't committed to running, yet. Until he's a declared candidate, he's getting free publicity from all those LAW AND ORDER reruns. Once he's official, they'll stop running his episodes until after the election.

Not that this is the reason he's delaying. Just interesting trivia.

When next you hear of him, it will be at his Presidential inauguration ceremony January 20th, 2009. Go ahead, laugh. Do it while you can. You cannot begin to fathom the underlying groundswell grassroots support he has-and among LIBERALS he's at 39%!!
