Generally, you can start solids when the baby is over 4-5 months old and doesn't seem satisfied by 32oz of formula a day. (If your baby is satisfied by current feedings until she's 6 months, that's totally okay!) You start with baby cereal - pick one, and start with that for a week, mixing it to a runny consistency with formula so that the taste isn't totally foreign. You don't move on from cereals until you've tried all of them. Then you can start with the jarred foods - it's always better to start with green veggies rather than fruits or sweet vegetables like carrots or sweet potatoes - babies REALLY like sweet stuff! You change stages/textures as your baby is ready.

All of this is a general guideline. Your baby may progress sooner or later - and that's normal!

My baby just turned 4 months last week and for the past 4 weeks or so I've been giving him stage 1 bananas or apple sauce mixed with the gerber oatmeal and formula to thin it out. He has been doing great eating it from a spoon. I only give him one small bowl a day however.

It varies based on the baby, anywhere from 4 to 6 months usually. If they can hold their head up pretty well, turn their face away when no longer hungry, and push food around in their mouths with their tongue to swallow and eat from a spoon are usually good signs, in addition to an appetite that just is not satisfied easily from formula alone.

My daughter's physician said that she could start having single grain rice cereal at 3 months and start jarred baby food at 4-5 months. This worked very well....she has no allergies at all, which is the concern when starting children younger than 6 months on solid foods.

all 3 of mine was started on cereal at 3 mos. for they were just like your little one and was drinking down 6-7 ozs every 2-3 hrs. when you give her the cereal, put it in a bowl and give it to her on spoon, and try not to be putting it in her bottle, for that will fill her belly with air along with the food. If your still unsure, and her Dr. or your health department if they have a WIC ( women, infant, and children) program, and if they do see if they can sent you some info to help.

They say that you need to start at 5-6 months you can now start the cereal but NOT the baby foods.Mine is normal and she started at 5 months because she was very hungry for food. But he/she will love the cereal.

6 months at the earliest but not all munchkins are ready then either. there are certain tongue reflexes they need to lose, the should be expressing great interest in what you are eating- try the web for more signals.
