South America is a continent of many divergent cultures, climates, and geography. Thus, there is no representative country to speak of.
BTW: Brazil is the ONLY country in S.A. where Portugese is the spoken language. That is hardly representative. If pressed for an answer, I'd say Columbia.

I'd say Brazil....perhaps its because it really stands up in sports, geographic, economic as well as political issues!!!
