Or any other Aphrodite. I curious about the height, waist, hip and bust size of beatiful women depicted in those sculptures.

This question was inspired by another question: "What's considered a good figure?"

I.e. what proportions whould she have if she was human? I seem to recollect that yes, there was no particular human model.

Ah, my dear contacts, Aphrodite of Melos is a Greek sculpture. Aphrodite is a goddess of beauty according to myths. No offence taken.

"Larger" proportions were relative to people who lived back then. I've read somewhere that she was 5'6 or 5'8 which is not really tall in our days.

If Aphrodite was indeed a real goddess as the Greeks believed she would have been a woman of larger proportions than we Americans view as ideal. Look at the sculptures in Italy from the Great Roman days and you see the men are still muscular as desired today but the women have more layers on them. Back then that was viewed as beauty, even through the Renaissance and the early 1900' s that considered the desired size for a woman.

Aphrodite Of Melos

You know, I can't seem to find any measurements (other than the height of the sculpture) in any reference materials. There are different shapes for many of the representations of Aphrodite. Most depended on the cultures and artists prefrences. As you know, some are very fat, some are skinny, and the Aphrodite of Melos has sort of a cross between a pudge and a 6 pack.

However Aphrodite was the personification of more than just her measurements. . - Hesiod: "This honour she has from the beginning, and this is the portion allotted to her amongst men and undying gods, -- the whisperings of maidens and smiles and deceits with sweet delight and love and graciousness." THE THEOGONY(ll. 176-206) He also refers to her as "laughter-loving", "rich", "golden", "charming" i"garland-loving". Now that's a beautiful woman regardless of her shape.

What's a good figure? What pleases you? That's a good figure.
