bought dell dem. with xp home installed. Can only start in safe mood or just get background image no taskbar?

how do I get desktop back. I tried to restore from earlier date , still no luck. things work good in safe mood no problems in device mang. ????????????

Read the stuff that came with it. There's an image of the original setup in a separate partition on the hard drive that you can use to restore the system to it's virgin state.
