I think it defiantly depends on what you are going to do with the computer. And of course you will have to think about what model of these computers you are going to use. If you are ready to make the leap and have a good change ( a O/S without viruses, and less hassle ) defiantly go with the Apple MacBook. It is a great computer, and the O/S is just rock solid. Only reason I wouldn't recommend it, is you are going to work in an Windows only work place ( i.e. company uses a lot of software which only works for Windows, which would mean using either Parallels to make Windows run using virtualization or dual booting using Boot Camp, If you are in an Windows only environment go with an IBM or Dell .)

P.s. about the MacBook, the MacBook has an rather weak graphics card for games, so if you are planning going for some hardcore games, again IBM or Dell. But for all else defiantly the Mac. If you are a casual gamer ( Sims and stuff ) it should be great, and even if you are an intense gamer the MacBook Pro will also be efficient. But if your games are not available for Mac OS X it can be a little more of an hassle

I personally use an MacBook Pro, I love it, I run Windows using Parallels as I have to use windows programs because of my school ( I have to develop some of the software using Visual Studio ) and it works just great.

I would defiantly recommend the Mac environment for everybody, it is very easy and straight forward, doesn't suffer from viruses and slows down because of spyware, all in all a great platform.

As well as the current Mac lineup is great value for money.

Do I need to say more.

I use a Macbook with Windows added to it. Not great. OS X is a much better system than Windows, but Apple makes some of the flimsiest hardware in the world. Apples almost always go belly up by the time they're three years old. We have 12 year old Toshibas that still work fine. They build a tough computer. Acers make good doorstops.

Toshiba - reliable, used to be the leader, high end parts - the most expensive out of the two (acer, toshiba)

Acer - does the job, budget based, use mainstream to low end parts

Macbook (apple) - No windows, very expensive in terms of the hardware performance gained, limited software, an overall expensive system

Toshiba makes the best laptops because they use high quality products, unlike any other computer company.

Try them out, it's hard to pick brand by brand and come up wither a precise list. Preferably go within your price range, and find one you like.

People have different assumptions of what their preferred companies. Me, I don't like any of them, I built my own computers and thats what I do for a living.
