There is software available that will do this fairly well such as Acronis® True Image 10 * Home or Symatec's Norton Ghost 10 **, if affordable.

If not, then more information is needed:

What operating system are you using?

Is the old HDD failing or just filled up?

Do you have case space and connectors/cables for an additional hard drive?

It would be better to install the OS from scratch on the new hard drive. Get rid of a lot of years of garbage. You can set the jumpers on the old hard drive to slave and leave it in the computer. Then you'll have all your old data and a built in backup drive.
I'm not really sure why you'd want to start throwing money into a $50 computer to start. I just bought a discontinued Dell desktop for $250 on their site, and got a pretty decent machine about twenty times as powerful as that old dinosaur of yours. (Same one I had before).

Yes, I would agree with googling it. But, there is an alternattive.
You can have several hard drives is a PC, you know. Just find a place for it in your computer, and you're good to go. Most desktops have room for several Hard Drives.

Or, you can get an external hard drive. it connects via USB or firewire, and does not take any space in your computer.

there are many tutorials online just google them. The process is too long to explain on yahoo answers. It would be easier if you google it.
