The Washington Times? Come now, let's be serious and if you are going to rant at least use something that vaguely resembles journalism.

How do you know the surge is working? Reporters that go to Iraq are very limited to where they can go & who they can talk to. We only know what news the administration releases. One question I have; If Petraeous is sooo great, why wasn't he put in charge of the forces in Iraq to begin with. Why did bush & rumsfield go thru so many generals to get to Petraeous? Why does the military bring the dead home in secrecy? Why doesn't the administration treat our wounded with more respect & provide better care? Why is it taking years to train the Iraqi army when our own soldiers get two months of training before they go to Iraq? Why are they talking about American troops being in Iraq for years to come? Because this administration says it's working doesn't mean it is! Is it worth the lives being lost & the outrageous cost? Remember this......... somebody will pay for this war!

By "less US soliders are being killed" -- you're referring to the 76 dead in July instead of the 90~95 dead per month on average? Continue dropping at that rate for another 6 months until it gets down to less than 1 per day and then MAYBE you can claim it's working.
Be we cannot "win" in Iraq any more than we can "lose" in Iraq -- it's not our job to finish. It's like talking about the umpire "winning" a baseball game -- it's a meaningless concept because we're not one of the sides in the conflict.
Until the Iraq govt makes itself stable, the conflict will not end. And even Patreaus is saying that it'll take at least 10 more years before that's likely to happen. And even Patraeus admits we cannot even sustain the Surge for another six months.
That would be most of an entire generation of Americans having fought a war that does NOTHING to benefit us.
"Finish the job"???? What exactly is "the job" we're trying to finish? Because our stated mission was to depose Saddam -- that's done. We did finish. Mission Accomplish.
What exactly is "the job" we're trying to finish?

you're a bit off on your numbers...
42 percent support taking military action in the first place (which is different than the current war)
only 31 percent think the surge is making the war better...
so that's 11 percent (of the 42) that think it was good that we went to war... but still think we're messing it up...
and of course that's 69 percent that don't think the surge has worked...
I wouldn't have cited the story if I was you either...
http://www.washingtontimes.com/article/20070810/NATION/108100075/1002/NATION
now granted... it's growth... but it's not the growth that you say it is...
and the whole "less soldiers and Iraqi soldiers are being killed" can be very deceiving...
you say it like it's the lowest point of the whole war... in fact... it's the lowest point of the past 8 or so months...if you've read the stories...
again an improvement, but not the improvement that you're stating...

The Washington TImes....
Yet another rah rah Republican rag...
Yawn....thats as good as having
Rush Limpdick tell this tall Republican tale....
In todays news....
The Iraq governor, Khalil Jalil Hamza, & the police chief, Maj. Gen. Khalid Hassan, were killed along with their driver & a bodyguard. Hassan had been on the job only one week, officials said.
In all, at least 33 people were killed or found dead nationwide, including a police officer and a woman who were struck by separate roadside bombs in northern Iraq.
When are the Republicans ever going to stop calling
it THEIR war to win? Its the IRAQI'S to win....NOT USA...
DUH!

I was in support of this war from the start. This is proof that my cockroach theory could work.We should send in army and marines by the millions and crawl all over Iraq like cockroaches. We increased the number of troops already and the violence went down.Imagine if we loaded the place up.I think we would get things done much faster then.

Even Harry Reid was forced to admit the surge is working. Of course he tried to get around it but even the left leaning reporter who interviewed him couldnt let him get aaway with lying. Of course politically the Iraqis have a long ways to go but that is not the same issue as whether the surge is working.
In most polls over the past several years, the internals show that the majority who are not satisified feel that we should pound them harder something that politicians overlook

Democrats are always afraid that we might win any war. Every bill they introduce regarding any war has a white flag attached to it, and it's bound in a booklet with a yellow spine!
