It goes back in most cases to Religion. The story of Noah's Ark. First he sent out a Raven and it never returned. Later he sent out a Dove and it returned saying it was safe to leave. Most belief systems have other stories like that that make you think black birds are bad. So from the time you are a kid that is what you believe. I have no idea what started it but that is what continues it.

In some beliefs, crows and ravens, while they do symbolize the night, they are also symbols for the female element and the moon- which I think is beautiful. Also, in the Northwestern US, many Native American legends hold Raven as the most clever who play a huge part in the creation of the universe and who also brings many wonderous things to people.
I also know that many people find white birds like seagulls to be a nuissance and a pest. So, I hope that helps.

Black birds are not meaner or nicer than any other bird of any other color. Did you get your information from a children's fairy tale?? Ravens, and crows are black and actually considered to be the most intelligent birds (along with parrots) in the world. I have have seen some very pretty black birds.

Sure, in stories and fairy tales, that may be true, but in real life, it isn't...It's almost sort of racist towards the birds, you know, judging their characteristics because of the pigment of their feathers...Sorta mean, don't you think?
But I talk to much! You see, black birds don't necessarily mean death or sadness or bad stuff. Thruthfully, in the Norse myth of the Valkyries, a flapping, cawing black raven means victory and/or celebration.
But one thing you must remember is, all birds, no matter their shape, size, or color, can poop on your car...
Hope I helped...

Crows and ravens are actually very intelligent, although crows are anti social and difficult to train, even when raised by humans from birth.
Do you believe this applies to other animals as well? Is that why my black cat bites when you touch his stomach but my "tiger" cat purrs when one does the same thing?
Don't be ridiculous.
Color has nothing to do with ANYTHING, human nor animal.

People who are knowledgeable about birds don't believe these things and crows and ravens are some of the smartest birds.

Opinions like these are cultural conditioning. See the article in Wikipedia on the symbolism of the color.
