In my case, it's still less expensive than going with cable line or DSL so I don't want to take that route yet.

Are there any other options I may not be thinking of because unfortunately I have my hardwire service through Embarq who I have had many problems with (on their end) and I hate paying them a monthly phone bill when I never use that phone number for anything except Internet access.

Are there other ways of Internet connection besides Landline, DSL or Cable that are less expensive than a local phone bill?

There are many ways to access the internet, but the local dialup phone method is cheapest by design.

It really just depends on the competition that is present where you live -- if there is only one company selling Internet (phone company) you're screwed unless you subscribe to a satellite based internet, which will be more expensive and give you better performance than dialup, but less performance than dsl or cable.

I live in a large city with many choices for Internet -- I pay $35/month for Verizon FIOS (30 Mbps download, 3 Mbps upload). By contrast, my parents live in a smaller city and their only option (other than dialup) is to pay $60/month for slow DSL 750kbps/750kbps.

Hi!

Dial Up is the less expensive way.

Good luck!
