You don't ever backup files on a mac -- they don't crash, they don't ever get viruses and their hard drives don't EVER go defective. Backing up is for PC users.

.Mac backup, is a great utility. However you need one more thing. The best device to backup to is an External Hard Drive. They can run anywhere from $90 and up. This would be the device that ,Mac backup would save your info to.

And if you get an External HDD look for one with Firewire, they are usually faster than USB

I use SuperDuper! to create a bootable clone on an external hard drive. You can use cloning software with an external drive or other software that will just backup files to an external drive. Another way is to burn your Home folder files to CDs or DVDs.
