The shark in JAWS. I wonder what kind of a childhood it had? What was its motivation? Was it just being itself, or did it feel anger toward the people who were trying to destroy it? I have the same thoughts about the Leviathan in Moby Dick. Am I anthropomorphizing too much? Who is to say that our understanding of animals is not fraught with parochialism and human chauvinism?

Owen Meany from "A prayer for Owen Meany" by John Irving. I really recommend it as it's an unusual novel with lots of twists and turns.
