Who is a (fictional) character from a BOOK that you truly love or cherish?

(Please note that answers that include comic books, movie adaptation books, or religious texts will not be noted for best answer, as the question is centered on fictional literature. Yes, that goes even for those of you who consider the Bible fictional literature.)

I really can't tell you why I have such a profound love for the character of Beatrice in Dante's Inferno. I think it's because she represents hope, divine love, and the light at the end of the tunnel during his journey. But I also love Virgil's character as the guide who represents human reason.

Another character I absolutely fell in love with in contemporary fiction is Louis Daguerre's character in Dominic Smith's "The Mercury Visions of Louis Daguerre". Although the book is loosely based on the actual person (the inventor of the daguerreotype -- now, the modern day photograph) Smith creates a very endearing character of this man who made it his life purpose to capture the most beautiful image ever ... not realizing that after a decade into his quest he is slowly being poisoned by the mercury solution he uses to develop his pictures. As he is running out of time and descends into his own world, you become endeared by this character. He's like a moth around a lantern. I will never shake this character from my memory. amazing. sigh.

Last but not least -- as a child I really loved Corduroy the bear, who gets lost in a shopping mall. That's as far back as I can go.

Dr. Zhivago's wife, I cannot remember her name off-hand, because of the courage she had in facing the many challenges of life. I probably had the picture of her in my mind from the movie as I read the book, but still, it was not only how she looked but what she did and how she lived her life. She hung in there through the many changes her life had, in the book that is, since she is a fictional character!
I also had great affinity and fascination for Kazantzakis's portrayal of Jesus in the Last Temptation of Christ. (We can always work the biblical characters into this conversation through works of fiction on those characters, can't we?)

1. Vanyel Ashkevron from "Last Herald Mage of Valdemar" trilogy. First books I ever read with a gay hero.

2. Colonel Virkon from "Bangkok 8 & Bangkok Tattoo", a true mastermind when it came to social strategies and the like.

3. Ash from the "Dark Hunter" series, so hot, so wise, so wounded. All he needs is the love of a good woman.

I in all probability love my characters extra desirable than I could. i began out arising a novel in my head early in severe college, despite the fact that it grew to become into positioned aside throughout those severe college years and invaded my recommendations lower back in college. i are transforming into to renowned the characters so properly, and that i'm very related to them. My sister even is familiar with them very properly. She'll come domicile from college (she's a sophomore) and tell me of issues the lads in college did that made her think of of my characters. (She writes too, so she does not think of that is strange. lol!) Our mom thinks we are loopy b/c to hearken to us communicate, it appears like we are speaking approximately genuine human beings. i'm actual a character-pushed author. i admire them. <3
