I moved into a rental house in arizona and the entire backyard is little stone. Suddenly when the monsoons hit, my entire backyard started growing grass. Not just a little...a full thick yard. I can't afford to water the stuff when the monsoons are over and i can't cut it because the entire bottom is stones. I need to kill it all off. I'm not really worried about planting anything in the future, but i can't have this grass growing. Does anyone have a homemade grass killer recipe that I can use on a large scale that will take less than 10 days? (we will get fined if we don't keep up the yard, stupid CC&Rs). Thanks

Oh I forgot to mention I don't have a lawn mower and have no intention of getting one...sorry:)

The guy that mentioned using gas is correct. That will work faster than anything else. Just be sure not to have any open flames or cigarettes around. Use extreme caution while doing this. Pour the gas in small patches over time. Use extreme caution while doing this. Don't do the whole yard at once.

Another, safer alternative is to use salt. Salt will kill the grass, too, but will take longer.

If you by (frequently or infrequently) different gardening and landscaping magazines why don’t you just purchase a complete one from here https://tr.im/iUyMH a truly excellent resource with a plenty of specifics and quality guides , without a doubt it’s great value.
Ideas4Landscaping include comprehensive diagrams and straightforward to stick to guidelines if you don’t know the place to start, a program that is also coming with different themes and bonus materials like the “Landscaping Secrets Revealed manual, Save On Energy Costs – Green Home guide or How To Grow Organic Vegetables - without a doubt a complete plan for the ones that want to find out landscaping or just to make the backyard or front yard a lot more interesting.

I live in AZ and I have done lot's of landscaping because my dad's a contractor.

What I am about to suggest is probably in violation of a multitude of EPA codes, so maybe glance over the fence and make sure your neighbors aren't outside.

Gasoline. It is only stuff I ever use. DO NOT LIGHT IT ON FIRE. You will start a bigger fire. Things burn really well here. Just dump gas on it. Be generous. Wait maybe 5 hours and you will already be able to tell the grass is dying. Let it turn nice and brown/yellow. Then just get a rake and rake up the dead grass so you don't look like a hillbilly.

Did I mention NOT to light it on fire. Because that is really pretty important.

I use white household vinegar for grass and weeds. It works every bit as well as the much-more-expensive brand name products. Put a gallon or two of it into a bug sprayer (probably about $15 at most hardware stores) and give it a shot. It'll work in 10 days for sure. I use it to keep the grass from creeping up into the asphalt at the edges of my driveway. Good luck. Your grass should turn brown in no time.

Rock salt and bleach are the only cheap things that come to mind. Ortho makes a product called Ground Clear that works very well. It's a little labor intensive though. You'll have to pull the grass and spray after you pull. It won't kill tall grass, but it will kill very short grass and keep other plants from growing.

You can use Roundup, but you'll have to reapply it several times a year. As for homemade, you could use bleach. You can mow over the stones, just set the blades to a higher setting, or use an old fashioned non-motored mower.

You are going to have to use something such as RoundUp.

RoundUp goes through the leaves, down the stem, into the roots to kill the whole plant.

In this heat, it should be killed in a day or two. The hotter the better.

You can try to use the product available here:

alternative: http://www.epinions.com/content_268806950532

Or, if you need to work on a larger scale, you can use this one:

But, in this case, you have to take certain safety measures.
