first step is to get a lawyer and then go from there .Each state has different laws generally the first thing that some one does is either move out or change the locks right after they talk to a lawyer In my state the divorce was final 30 days after it was filed but we both wanted out and did not fight over the assets i left him and just asked for a small amount of cash. He got the house, the savings , the livestock and the business I wanted out!

Tell her to get a lawyer, I'm divorcing after 30 years, she needs to talk to a lawyer about how this is going to happen and what to expect. If you want have your mom email me I'll try to help her with what I know I should get something out of the money I've spent on lawyers fees.
