Sophia. This name comes from the Greek word for "knowledge" or wisdom, and in the original Greek it was spelled with the letter phi, which is where all our written-as-ph-but-sounds-like-f words come from.
And as for the person who said a girl named Sophia would misspell her name when she's learning to write it in school, that may be the case at first, but this is English, not Turkish or Italian, and in case you haven't noticed, our orthography (writing system, a.k.a. spelling) is not exactly phonetic. That is, sounds and letters don't have a one-to-one correspondence in English like they do in some languages. If anything, a girl named Sophia will learn to spell the ph-makes-an-f-sound in her name and this will help her later on when she encounters this letter combination in other words!

I was having this very same debate with myself over my character's name. :P I personally prefer the way "Sophia" looks compared to "Sofia." "Sofia" also appears more of a "childish" version of the name, if you know what I mean. Cute for kids, but kids grow up. :P

I think Sophia is classier.
Sofia (sorry, but this is just my opinion and doesn't mean that every Sofia will turn out this way) reminds me of a stripper. Sorry, its just what I associate the name with
