Well, the FASTEST connection I can think of is a T4 line, which large businesses use. It gets like 10 gigs a second, or something. IT'S FREAKING FAST. The problem is... it costs a couple hundred a month. Yeah, that's why LARGE BUSINESSES use them.
A DECENTLY fast connection would be either cable (Comcast, etc.) or a high-end DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) which get fairly good speeds. You can get DSL from your phone company, as THEY'RE the ones who give you the digital signal.

T1 is the fastest bit it'll cost roughly $300 per month for home use. Currently, mostly businesses and some government agencies use T1 internet.

T2 connection would be the fastest in the world. all though someone in Eurpose develped a connection that can download a whole movie in under 2 minutes.

It's not the fastest, but its decent for the price -- I'm using Verizon Fios 30Mb download/3Mb upload for $35/month.

Every company that provides DSL for $10 more a month they give you faster connection, I used to pay that to sbcglobal and I used to get speed of 6mbps
