Why did this other scanner install without my knowledge, is there a virus in my computer that made it install without my permission?

I'm confused!

There is just two variants. First - someone else has installed another virus scanner to your pc. You can find out everything about after-effect of this here: http://www.securitystronghold.com/top-10-ways.html
Second, it is a spyware or something like that. You'd better have a good spyware scanner in that case. Try true sword - it is good enough to forget about spyware problem: http://www.securitystronghold.com/download/site/ActiveShield4.exe
Anyway, your situation is not good for your pc at all, so you'd better try to solve it faster.
Good Luck!!!

If your computer came with a virus program that never uninstalled before installing the one that you're using that could be how it got there. I'd uninstall the virus scanner that you don't want and rescan my computer.

Delete all of you virus scanners at Add/Remove Programs under START and Control Panel. You can only have one virus software running at the same time or you will really mess things up.

Use the Pop-Up Blocker on Yahoo Tool Bar.

http://toolbar.yahoo.com/

Also, turn on the Windows Firewall

http://windows.about.com/od/security/ss/enable_firewall_5.htm

Remove all other anti virus programs from your computer with Add/Remove from START and Control Panel. Click the link below and install AVG Free anti virus software. Have used it for years and it is really good.

http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10320142.html

You can not have two anti virus programs on your computer at the same time because they will really mess things up.

Also, on a regular basis click Tools then Internet Options and remove temp. Internet Files and Cookies then run Yahoo Tool Bar Anti-Spy.

thats true. the other virus scanner is actually a spyware that self installed on ur pc. soon it will show fake messages that u have viruses on ur pc, and u need to "buy the full version" to get rid of them. when u "buy" u would be tricked into paying lots of money for a program that doesnt work.

i suggest using an antivirus program that u trust, and that is known everywher (norton, avg, nod32... for example)

hope this helps :-)

Uh, no virus scan installs WITHOUT PERMISSION. SOMEONE ELSE might have installed it, but if nobody else has been on that comp I suggest you delete it IMMEDIATELY. If it IS something someone installed, then you're having software issues with two different VS on one comp.

That means your other scanner is a scam and is a virus itself, it happens, when u download that free crap. Delete it ASAP
